Bet365 Arrives in Pennsylvania Following its Full Approval Across the State
In a significant development for the online gambling and sports betting industry, Bet365 has received full approval to operate in Pennsylvania following a period of three days of a soft-launch and testing, which resulted successful.
This marks a pivotal expansion for the UK-based betting giant, known for its comprehensive sports betting platform and extensive online casino offerings. The approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) signifies not only a major milestone for Bet365 but also a noteworthy addition to the competitive landscape of Pennsylvania’s burgeoning online gambling market.
The Bet365 launch in Pennsylvania has been highly anticipated ever since the sports betting operator announced a partnership with Presque Isle Downs & Casino back in January 2023. This multi-year agreement with Churchill Downs Incorporated would allow bet365 to enter the iGaming and online sports betting market in Pennsylvania.
“We are pleased to partner with a global leader in the online gaming industry,” said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI. “Our relationship with bet365 enables us to maximize the value of our company’s sports betting and iGaming market access in Pennsylvania.”
However, it took over a year and a half for bet365 to officially initiate steps to offer sports betting and iGaming in Pennsylvania. Despite receiving approval to fully operate in the state, the operator has not yet launched, and a request for comment on the full launch timeline in Pennsylvania has stayed unanswered to this day.
The Present Situation of Sports Betting in Pennsylvania
Online sports betting debuted in Pennsylvania in November 2018, and with the upcoming launch of bet365, all major industry operators are now present in the state.
Pennsylvania consistently ranks among the top 10 states in sports betting handle and revenue. This is partly because the state has the fifth-highest number of professional sports teams in the country, trailing only California, Florida, New York, and Texas. Additionally, Pennsylvania boasts a thriving college sports scene.
The introduction of bet365 brings the total number of sportsbook options in Pennsylvania to 12, but this will only last for a few weeks. Betway recently announced its exit from the U.S. sports betting market and will be leaving Pennsylvania on July 31. Nevertheless, 11 sportsbooks remain a substantial offering.
Pennsylvania is one of just 12 states with legalized online sports betting that provides 10 or more sportsbook options to its bettors. So, if you’re a sports betting enthusiast living in the Keystone State, consider yourself a very fortunate person.
